Hickory Bread Board/Pizza Peel

Our bread boards or pizza peels started in the Fall of 2023 when we re-created a friend's grandmother's bread board. Since then we have made bread/pizza boards from many varieties of wood and wood combinations. This particular pizza peel is made from warm-toned Hickory with a center stripe of sap wood that fans out toward the bottom making this a truly one-of-a-kind wood creation.

Approximate size: 10" x 21.5". The board thickness is 1/2" but tapers at the lower 3-4" edge of the board (so you can slide it under a pizza or loaf of bread and scoop it out of the oven). The pizza peels are individually drawn, cut, hand-planed, sanded, and finished. We do not use a "jig" to mass produce the pizza peels but instead take an individual handcrafted approach to each board.  Each board is protected with soft wax which is a food grade safe product to enhance the wood grain and protect the wood.

Note: In photo 3 there are arrows pointing to an area on the front of the pizza peel. Those circles are a part of the wood grain and are not raised. The area is sanded smooth. We suspect that at one time the wood may have had a nail embedded in that area or a bullet in the wood at some point - but not anymore. A great conversation starter!
