Simple, sturdy, and made by hand, this hackberry wooden spatula is designed to be a hardworking utensil with the character of traditional craftsmanship.
The broad, gently shaped blade makes it useful for stirring, sautéing, scraping, and serving, while the long handle provides a comfortable reach when cooking at the stove. The natural grain of the hackberry runs beautifully from the handle through the paddle, giving the piece subtle variations in color and pattern that can only come from real wood.
The spatula was cut to shape on a bandsaw, then individually carved, shaped, sanded, and finished by hand. It intentionally retains a somewhat rustic, primitive character rather than the perfectly uniform appearance of a mass-produced utensil. Slight variations in its shape and carving are evidence of the handmade process and make this piece one of a kind. Made for the kitchen, but with enough character to deserve a spot beside the stove.
