Spoon - Hackberry

Handmade from hackberry wood, this substantial cooking spoon combines everyday usefulness with the character of traditional handcraft. It has a comfortable weight and pleasing balance that makes it especially nice for stirring soups, sauces, stews, and other dishes on the stovetop.

The spoon began as a solid piece of hackberry, was cut to shape on the bandsaw, then individually carved and finished by hand. Rather than striving for the perfectly uniform appearance of a factory-made utensil, the spoon was intentionally finished with a natural, slightly primitive character. Subtle variations in the carving and shaping are part of the piece and reflect the hand of the maker.

Hackberry's distinctive grain is especially attractive in this spoon, with warm golden-brown tones and darker grain lines running from the handle into the bowl. A functional wooden utensil with enough character to leave out on the counter instead of hiding in a drawer.
